Helmsley

Completed in 2024 for our annual Festival of Lessons and Carols service, this brass/percussion/organ arrangement of "Lo, He comes with clouds descending" brings to life one of the most energetic Advent hymns in the book! In G major, it pairs perfectly with the Hymnal 1982 version for the choir and congregation. 

The introduction was written for brass/percussion alone, allowing an organist/director to conduct the instrumentalists before bringing in the first stanza with the organ. In cases where the choir sings the introit from the back of the church, or another location far from the console, this extended introduction can allow plenty of time for the organist to conduct the choir then move back to the console before needing to play.
